This week I focused a lot on our house. I'm looking for some chairs for our piano room so we checked out a new store in the area. Austin looked cute sitting in this chair!
I printed out some pictures from Wal-mart to decorate Eleanor's room. I found this string of lights at TJ Max for a few dollars and Eleanor's room is good to go. She loves the pictures and lights!
Here is the boys' bathroom. The shelves were already there, so I found a few things to put on them!
On Monday evening, our FHE lesson was on how Paul compared living the gospel to running a race. We had a family race and I drew this on the sidewalk at the finish line!
Preparing for the race. The kids loved it!
I've been stuck for years on family history work from my dad's side from the Czech Republic. I found this flyer at the library this week and I'm excited to check out this Genealogy Center. The flyer had information specifically about the history of the Czech Republic. I took it as a blessing that this is where I need to go for help on my family records.
The kids loved the books from the library!
I took Eleanor to a new Dr. this week for her 18 month check up and she's happy and growing. I felt so grateful for my children and decided to surprise them with an after school ice cream treat. They were happy!
We went to play group at the park and stopped by Costco. Eleanor is always happy to try the samples. Austin is always happy when I say yes to sharing lunch after our shopping trip.
I've felt stretched in my parenting lately - I feel like my kids are quick to obey Aaron and one morning, I prayed to Heavenly Father asking if I could be more like Aaron. I instantly had a thought to not pray to be like Aaron - our children need both the individual role a mother and father provide. I thought of the Family: A Proclamation to the world and the roles of a father and mother in raising children. During my morning run, I noticed these new trees by the temple grounds. The trees had two stakes on opposite sides pulling to help make the tree stand tall. I imagined that tree being a child and was able to see a visual of the importance of a mother and a father. In contrast, I noticed this other young tree in my neighborhood that was leaning to the left and I felt sorry for him to not have the "support" to help him grow straight.
Austin, Eleanor and I took a trip to visit a family friend that I knew when I was just a young girl - Lisa Mitchell. She was my mom's friend when I was about 5! Lisa loved my kids and gave them lots of hugs and cookies, like Grandma's do. Lisa talked about how my mom was a mentor to her and I teared up as I talked about what an amazing person my mother is.
These two found owl stickers and put them on their arms and flew around like they were owls. I love their creativity.
And Austin did these puzzles!! It's my favorite to do preschool at home together.
In other news... Aaron and I ran 6 miles on Saturday and then started scrapping off our popcorn ceilings. It's a mess, but I love seeing the progress!! When we first moved in, I got an estimate of how much it would cost to pay someone to do this work and the quote was $9,000! So crazy. We decided to do it ourselves and it is going to take more time than we imaged, but I'm excited for the final product and that we're saving money along the way. Aaron's really doing the hard work and I'm cleaning up behind him. When we painted our house in Colorado, there was a lot of conflict between us haha now, I told Aaron we could have a business scrapping ceilings together!
