Aaron had Monday off for Columbus Day. He joined Adelaide for music class. She smiled the entire time! Aaron asked if she's always this excited for music class. YES! She loves it so much. After music class, it worked out for Aaron and me to clean the KC temple for a few hours. I usually go to the gym Monday mornings, but temple cleaning was my work out. I was tired! I was tasked with cleaning the inside of the windows. After temple cleaning, Aaron treated Adelaide and me to lunch at my favorite little Argentine cafe. The prices are ridiculous, but the food and environment immediately take me back to my favorite memories in Argentina.
Eleanor makes us laugh. She got this pretzel to stick to her lip. We found these PJs in some clothes a friend gave us. When we turned off the lights, we discovered that the bones glow!!
My cousin Nicole lost her 19 year old daughter Shelby to a blood clot. She died in Rexburg, ID. The funeral was on Tuesday this week. I watched via zoom and cried as she and her husband testified of Christ and Shelby's faith. Nicole's husband's talk sounded like a General Conference talk. He closed his talk with these invitations:
1. Evaluate your relationship with God – is God talking to you? Do you have a relationship with God? See that the relationship is alive. Be the best you can be.
2. Love family unconditionally – don’t harbor hate where love should be
3. Live life to the fullest – do whatever is important to you.
If we focus on joy, we can make it through trials.
I found this quote by C.S. Lewis. I printed it off and have plans to add it to our new shelves in our dining room.
Adelaide found a pink headband. She looked adorable as we left the gym.
On Friday the kids got out of school two hours early. From school pick up, we went to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. It's been a while since we checked out a museum together. It was small, but insightful.
Saturday morning: Eli's improved his defensive skills. Grandpa Volk made it down for the games! The boys gave their all with him on the sidelines.
Aaron picked us up a surprise - CRONUTS. It's the mix between a donut and a croissant. Aaron had them at work and raved about them. We devoured them!
Next was Austin's game. He took several shots at the goal. He was sooo close! His team did pull away a win 1-0. Austin had an awesome header. It's been a great season for both the boys!
We enjoyed lunch with Grandpa Volk before he headed back home to work on house projects. We met up with friends to go rollerskating. The girls skated for the entire 2 hours! The boys had a blast too. Aaron and I skated the afternoon away. It was a memorable experience for us all!
Church was lovely today. Our favorite counselor in the stake presidency spoke. I know we're not supposed to have favorite, but we've gotten to know him the most over the past 4 years. He reminded us of the urgency it is to share the gospel and to have a relationship with our Savior.
Our primary program is in a few weeks. The kids are learning the songs so well. I feel the spirit so strongly as they sing about being like Jesus. I pray the primary songs are engraven on their hearts forever.
We attended choir practice today. We started Christmas music! Yay! I insisted we all go on a family hike after choir. Our walking path took us to a secluded park where we played family tag. I love this family of mine so much.
We have hard times and we're working on speaking better to each other. We lose our tempers often with each other, but my kids have taught me so much as they're quick to apologize and forgive.
Aaron is flying to Thailand this week for the temple dedication. I can tell he's so excited! I debated going with him, but ticket prices are so expensive. I encouraged him to go because I know this is an experience he'll treasure forever. I'm excited for him to share his experience with us when he returns. Temples are being built all over the world and it's a miracle Thailand will finally receive a temple!
