Cherishing the little things

As I look back on all we've done each week, I smile and cherish these times with my young family. Yes, it's exhausting at times and I'm in tears when Aaron comes home from work wondering how I'll ever survive when he deploys some day and then some days Aaron comes home and I tell him again and again how much I LOVE being a stay at home mom. I feel blessed to be able to enjoy all the simple things with my boys each day. And, deep down because I know we'll leave Colorado someday, I try my best to enjoy the area as much as possible so when we leave, I won't have any regrets!

I mentioned last week that my parents came on Sunday to go to church with us. My parents drove separate cars because my dad had been in northern Colorado for business and my mom went down to southern Colorado a few days before we all arrived there. So Monday morning, my dad got up early and left as he had some work business to take care of on his drive back. The boys and I found every excuse to keep Grandma Donna here as long as possible that morning. As she was packing up her suitcase, Eli asked her, "Please stay here, Grandma Donna." It made us all tear up. We hate goodbyes. We were all in the bedroom when my mom's phone beeped with a text saying her piano lessons the next day were canceling (one of the reasons she needed to get back home). So we convinced her that this was a sign and she should stay!! And she did! We hopped in the car and headed for the zoo!

We even road the sky ride for the first time and loved the view from above.

Thanks for a memorable day, mom!

Remember our lilac bush we discovered last month?! Here's another discovery from our back yard. Aaron hated this bush until it bloomed. Ha!

We've had, "visit the Aurora reservoir," on our summer to-do list and it finally happened last Wednesday with Alex and my high school BFF Beth! I love a good beach day.

Sand everywhere, even in Austin's hair!

Aaron's work schedule has been a little crazy and he's been working later than normal so on Thursday after naps we decided to break up the long evening without Aaron by saying hello to the fish at Walmart and then having a picnic for dinner followed by playing with water.

And so the bother adventures begin!

Friday our library put on quite the summer party for the kids that participated in the reading program.
Bubbles, music, face paint, snow cones and the highlight - a helicopter landing.

We stopped by the base to say hi to Aaron for 5 min before heading to Denver because the boys hadn't seen much of him during the week.

I had to beg Alex to let me babysit!! Aaron was working until 9 pm on Friday and then had translating and homework to do all day Saturday. We love a slumber party at the Davis home!

I got a taste of what it's like to have twins! I loved watching these two stare at each other.

Saturday morning we had breakfast at the church with Alex's ward and then headed back home. Aaron took an hour break in the afternoon to go with us to the Y and swim! Not pictured: Eli and I pulled weeds in the yard, vacuumed the car, folded the laundry and got the house organized for Sunday.

My almost 5 month old baby boy wearing 6-9 month pjs. Sweet dreams little one!

And here's to cherishing the little things. Every day!

Family time

My favorite part about living in Colorado Springs is being surrounded by family! I have over 50 cousins and it makes life so great. We met up with Matt and Liz and their family last Monday night for FHE and went bowling at Bass Pro. Let's do it again soon, guys!

Tuesday was dress like a cow day at Chickfila. Eli was too exhausted for a pic so here's one of our costumes! Free lunches are extra delicious!

Love little moments like this: as I was walking back from the bathroom, I saw Eli sitting beside Austin reading to him.

24th celebration. My parents are both from southern Colorado and each year the small town celebrates July 24th, when the pioneers arrived in Utah. A parade, carnival, hamburgers and lots of hugs from extended family are the best parts. This year we decided to add camping by the Sand Dunes to our agenda and we are adding to our agenda every year!

Aaron and Eli on a carnival ride.

Setting up camp.

We could play at this national park for days.

The guys hiked to the top...

while the younger guys played in the sand.

Nothing cuter than child size camping chairs. Luckily Colorado hasn't been as dry this year  as in the past so we could have a campfire!

Tinfoil dinners and s'mores were obviously our choice of food and then Aaron surprised everyone with chili cheese fries and they were yummy!

First time camping!

Aaron won uncle of the year award by surprising the little dudes with glow sticks.

Camping itself was a little rough with two little guys, but we are already been talking about doing it again sooner than later.

Cool cousins.

Family time after the parade!

Eli begged Aaron to take him on another carnival ride and I begged Aaron for a snow cone. I've googled "snow cone places in Colorado Springs" and haven't had much luck.

We headed home Saturday afternoon and the boys napped most of the drive home.

My parents drove up to our house on Sunday morning in time to join us for church! Sundays are always great, but they're even better with family visiting!
