Aaron worked the craziest week - he flew to CO for the day and then left for work around 4:30 a.m. several days in the a row. We missed seeing him as much as we usually do.
Eleanor was invited to a birthday party at a trampoline park. The boys were lucky and got invited to play too because another family couldn't make it. They had a blast and they were definitely ready for bed time.
Adelaide got some new glasses! With her other glasses, the lenses kept popping out. I guess I thought that was normal because the frames are so small. Come to find out, that's not supposed to happen so the optical shop traded Adelaide's old frames for these new ones.
Summer is a few weeks away and we're excited to have the boys around every day. I love having my two little girls with me when we run errands together. Today we decided to have a girls' lunch at Chipotle. It's nice financially to all share a burrito bowl for lunch.
Friday evening we attended the Art Show and BINGO night at the boys' school. I was impressed with all the art! When Eli was in first grade, the art show was canceled due to covid so we were excited to walk the halls of the school and see the art Eli and Austin were showcasing.
Eleanor is excited for school in the future, although I beg her to let me homeschool her.
On Saturday morning, I ran to the temple and when I got home, Eleanor said, "Mom, check the mail box!" She had stuffed a bunch of Mother's Day notes in the mailbox for me to find. She loves writing and drawing and coloring and showing others that she's thinking about them through her notes.
On Saturday evening, our friends invited us to a Kentucky Derby party. Our friends moved here from Kentucky last year and they taught us everything we needed to know about the derby. We had the BEST time and now we want to have a Kentucky Derby party every year.
Sunday was Mother's Day! It was a sweet day where I was covered in extra hugs and kisses. Grandpa Volk stayed with us so it was nice to have him around to take pictures for us after church. The kids sang so nicely in church and the boys filled out surveys about me. I smiled when they both answered this question the same:
My mom always says.. __________
They replied, "Give me a hug!"
I love their hugs and want to give them millions a hugs a day.
I'm grateful that Aaron has made my motherhood dreams come true. He spends lots of time and energy working outside the home so I'm able to be with our kids at home.
I really do love this stage of life. I love tucking all my kids into bed at night and keeping us all together as a little family. I know the years really do pass by so quickly. I've been cleaning out a lot of my baby stuff and selling it or giving it away. Have I really been a mother for nine years? As a little girl, I dreamed of being a mother and now I find myself living my dream. Yes, I'm exhausted and feel like I clean up the same messes a million times a day. I wonder if I'll ever keep up with the laundry and I get overwhelmed at times with motherhood, but I really do love planning birthday parties, organizing the kids' events and seeing them gain confidence as they participate in sports and ballet and music classes and giving primary talks. I love when we all sit down together at dinner and talk about our days. I love that our kids are happy and gaining faith. They're good kids and now I find myself wondering what their future families will be like.
I'm grateful for my own mother and when she was sick a few months ago, my heart felt even more grateful for the relationship I have with my mom.
How grateful I am for eternal families. I want to be with my immediate and extended family FOREVER! Forever. I know that's possible.
Aaron and the boys along with Grandpa squeezed in a little football fun as we waited for Grandma Volk to come to our house from the airport. She flew back home on Mother's Day and we got to have dinner with her too!
Aaron smoked some salmon and then Grandpa provided the dessert. Everyone was happy.
