Visitors

I'm back at exercising at the Y and I love being back at my favorite classes. The child watch wasn't opened one day so Adelaide helped me get everything ready for my barre class.

Months ago my friend asked if I was interested in participating in a sprint triathlon with her. I've always wanted to do one. I've been super intimidated by the swimming, but I trained and felt ready. Eleanor said, "Mom, if I can do one, you can do one." I did love watching my kids complete one the month before mine. Since I watched them, I felt like I was ready. We woke up everyone early and made our way to Lake Olathe. As we drove down, we noticed lightening. We set everything up and as we waited, it started raining and we were told to take cover. After several minutes, an announcement came on that the event had been canceled because of a storm rolling in!! NO! We were devastated! The event wouldn't be rescheduled and we weren't getting refund. BOO! We quickly took this picture and then gathered everything before racing back to our car. As we drove away, I cried. The kids asked if I was upset. I told them that as I prayed that morning, I prayed that I was grateful for the training that I started in June. I swam more with my kids at the pool. I bought a bike and enjoyed biking. I made a goal to walk/run 3 miles a day. The training was my favorite because I loved the variety to mix up swim - bike - run. I was a little panicked about swimming in the lake because I had only trained one time at Smithville Lake, but I had gotten faster at swimming 500 meters so I felt like mentally I could tell myself that I could do it when it felt hard.

Aaron and I talked with our kids about how sometimes plans change and things happen that we can't predict, like the weather. Something we can control is our attitude. I ended up having the participation medal mailed to me and I told my kids that when their future plans may change last minute, I'll use my medal as an example of when something I was prepared for was canceled. I'm grateful for the training and I hope to be able to train and complete a triathlon in the near future!

Megan and Jeff went to Hawaii so we were able to have their kids hang out with us for a Saturday and Sunday. The kids were excited to have a cousin sleepover and have them join us for church.

My mom called me and said my dad had meetings in Iowa and she decided to travel out to KC with him. Yay! My mom and I walked through the shops of downtown Liberty while Adelaide was at ballet class. A kind lady gave my mom this rose and told her to put it by her beside table while she was visiting KC for a few days. It was so thoughtful!

We joined Eleanor for school lunch!

We went to story time, played pickle ball and went on lots of walks. My mom loves going on walks. We found this cute cat by the playground and Adelaide got a kick out of walking with the cat.

Donuts with Grandfriends! Our PTA hosts a donut treat twice a year during the school year. My parents happened to be here last May for donuts and now this time in September! Yay! What a treat!

After breakfast, we walked Austin and Eleanor to their classrooms where my dad joined in with trading poke-man cards with Austin and his friends haha.

It was a short and sweet trip with my parents. I cried when they left. I always enjoy having them visit. I never imaged my dad would have so many meetings out this way so I love when they say they're headed out this way!

The middle school fundraiser is a color run! I volunteered to help set up for the event and then Adelaide and I stuck around to see Eli's group start off the run by tossing up color. He had a blast!
